SkyTrails Ranch, Inc. is devoted to safe PPC Flight Training.  We currently have seven certified Instructors and a competent staff, who are dedicated to reliable Flight Training, the Sport Pilot & LSA programs; as well as Sales and Service of powered parachutes.

We are also the western Distributor for Hughes Aviation's PREDATOR - the new leader in safe Ultralight flight; and a dealer for Powrachute.

SkyTrails Ranch, Inc. is a recreational/PPC training business that appeals to anyone who has the desire to fly.  Whether they are passing tourists or retired grandparents.  No license is required; and no medical examination is needed to experience the recreational flying ecstasy and safety of a powered parachute. Our classes range from the...

Our company was started as a Chapter “S” corporation, with two main partners: Dr. Paul Gooch and Frederick Scheffel.  Both owners have invested significant efforts to have already established themselves as successful business people.  When still in Pre-Med, Frederick was pulled into the computer industry in the late 70's by an evil aerospace company that offered him way-to-much money to program a robotic system.  And with the passing of time (and some computer BS - note that is not a degree)  he became a Computer Systems Analyst, even before the event of the Hard Drive, and has been the CEO of Wizard’s Window computer services since 1983.  Dr. Gooch has successfully expanded his purchase of Southwest Vision into a highly respected and successful practice. (And he does a good job of helping Frederick see straight!)

Both partners have a strong love for the freedom of flight and for the surrounding communities.  They have a record that shows that they are more than willing to help and support the people and businesses of their local communities.  Currently the Sheriff’s Search & Rescue Department calls on the volunteered services of the company and its associates whenever the need arises.  And the local Hospital and Police Department have free access to all of the company’s services & assets.

SkyTrails Ranch, Inc. is a company that offers a variety of training classes, sales and services related to the experience of safe ultralight & LSA (Light Sport Aircraft) flight.  Now, aircraft training & sales is not unique to the industry, however the business becomes an outstanding flower in the budding eruption of ultralight flight when you add the following:

Ø      A huge training area

Ø      Ultralight storage facilities which borders the airpark
(not yet completed)

Ø      A state-of-the-art Training center that gives the student far more than the required few hours of powered parachute training - STR training gives the students a foundation of knowledge, understanding and skills that will take the new pilot through a life-time of safe, exhilarating PPC flights.  The facility expands on the required instructions, by adding hours of actual ‘ground school’, aircraft communications techniques, emergency procedures, weather forecasting and advanced exercises.  All training will adhere or exceed the Federal Aviation Regulations, or as required.

Ø     An on-site warehouse storing common parts & supplies will also be available during training hours.

Our goal is to not only create a PPC Training standard, but to also become the standard that others compare themselves to when relating PPC Sales, Training & Service!

Mission Statement:

Before we get to our mission statement, let us just mention that,

"We have FAITH in GOD, but it is you that we TRUST to fly 'safe and sound'.  So we BELIEVE that with the desire to continually improve your flight knowledge & understanding – your flying skills will become competent & proficient through your experiences with our training!"

Our mission statement (simple and straight-forward)...
bullet

To be completely open with the client. (This means to not just answer a question with the best information available, but to answer the unasked related questions without having to be asked!)

bullet

To provide the best PPC training and flight equipment solutions;
and when 'Murphy's law' arises, to meet it with determination and...with
a sense of humor!

bullet

To treat our employees and associates with the highest respect;
to supply them with all the necessary equipment and friendly atmosphere
that would enable them to enjoy sharing safe powered parachute flight technologies, and to be motivated towards personal growth. We want our people to be associated with us for the long-term.

bullet

To share our good will and profits with the community, in as many humanitarian areas as possible.

bullet

And finally, to keep our customer's information – PRIVATE – no one will be given your name or information!

Eddie Johnson (President of Powrachute) was quoted (off the record) as saying,

"Not since Al Gore created the Powered Parachute, have I seen two men so devoted to the evolution of safe PPC flying!"

This area of the page will continue to contain references and statements about SkyTrails Ranch (hopefully good ones) from other powered parachute Instructors who are familiar with our course and our Instructors and from our Students (at least the ones that have made it through the gauntlet of the 'slings & arrows' of our cruel and unforgiving Instructors and their PPC teachings!)

Hi Frederick,
I really enjoyed your class and the professionalism that you are trying to bring to the sport of Powered Parachuting. I have told all my friends about Sky Trails Ranch and I hope they will come for your school should they decide this sport is for them. The lady at Powrachute was correct in the recommendation that you are the best at training in PPC. I  had a really good time and learned a heck of a lot and feel that I have the basics for learning more about flying the PPC. I will say I was most scared about landing, the takeoff didn't bother me at all, but of course I liked the power out landing the best from 2500 ft. John was excellent and the humor injected into the class by both of you, was really good to put our nervous stomachs at ease. Should you ever have a prospective student that is troubled about PPC, the schooling, etc., just have him call me and I will put his mind at ease.

I don't think I ever thanked you for the dinner Sat. night, it was great so thanks again!

I would like to come back down and rent your machine for a day or two (a few hours a day would be enough) while you are on the field and do some more flying around to try and get my 25 hours. I would like my wife Carol to go up in one, if you could take her up for a test flight. She will not fly in an airplane but said she would fly in a PPC. By the way she is still fussy at me for not bringing her down to get out of the snow and sit by the big heated pool and hot tub at the hotel that no one ever used. Please let me know. I am always open even though March is the best ski month and the mountain closes April 14th. this year, I could get out of here for mud season for a few days and I know Carol would love to get a break.

Thanks again and I can tell you the money was well spent and that I enjoyed every minute of your school and the camaraderie with the other students.

Sincerely,
Phillip Thomas
