Today's Weather

St. George Climate

The climate in St. George is semi-arid with two separate rainfall seasons in the early spring and late summer which average about eight inches of annual precipitation. Although average maximum temperatures for the summer months are between 95 and 101 degrees Fahrenheit, the low humidity makes these temperatures agreeable.

The Southern Utah climate features bright sunshine, small annual precipitation, clean air and a wide daily temperature range. Another attractive feature is mild winters with infrequent traces of snowfall which rarely stays on the ground more than a day.

St. George lies in the high desert at an elevation of 2800 feet. It is nestled in a picturesque valley surrounded by impressive sandstone cliffs. Within 20 miles north and west of the city are the Pine Valley Mountains (10,000 feet) and the Beaver Dam Mountains (7,000) offering cool mountain climate during the summer. St. George's climate is an attraction in its own right. It has become a green oasis in the desert, and the combination of the warm, dry winter climate and natural beauty of the setting draws both new residents and tourists to the area.

Traveling...

By Car: Interstate highway “I-15” runs directly through St. George.
From Denver via “I-70” the drive would be about a 10-12 hours.
From Los Angeles via “I-15”, the drive would be about 7-hours, including the drive from Las Vegas, which is under 2-hours.

By Air: There are direct flights to St. George via Delta and United Airlines.  Delta flights would be through Salt Lake City (~45 minutes air time). And United Airlines direct flights (~80 minutes air time) are through Los Angeles. However, don't expect jet service into St. George until 2005. Currently St. George only has a small airport, so 30 passenger turbo-props only for now; this translates into about 45 minutes air time from SLC & about 80 minutes from LAX.

Make it a Vacation

Many people like to make a vacation out of our Training scenario.  That's right -  learn to fly; have an incredible life expanding flight experience; and enjoy a great vacation in one the of the most geologically blessed areas of the U.S.A.!  - just take a few minutes and view some of the fantastic photos of the area. (And if you bring your spouse for a vacation experience and they would like to participate in this remarkable flight event – we offer their instruction for 25% off the price.)  There are shuttles available to Las Vegas and Mesquite, Nevada.  And as winter may be one of the best time to fly in the area, great snow skiing is just one hour north (and 8,000 feet up) in beautiful Brian Head, Utah.

The Seasons & Clothing

Spring: Beautiful, warm breezes and desert flowers. Warm jacket, gloves, and jeans recommended for flight; just shirt and pants for the ground.

Summer: Real warm (more like real hot). Early AM and late evening flights offer incredible Sunrises and Sunsets. T-Shirts & Shorts is enough for flight clothing.  But there are usually too many thermals for midday flights.

Fall: Similar to spring, but with beautiful autumn foliage in our local mountains and on the nearby North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Warm jacket, gloves, and jeans recommended for flight.  You will still find many days on the ground suitable for shorts, but bring pants.

Winter: Softer winds and crisp clean air. Shorter days – yes; but more usable flight conditions.  Dress warm.  On the ground just a light jacket or heavy shirt, but in the air – Full flight suits or Ski coats, gloves and warm head protection is needed for early mornings and evening flights.  But for midday flights, usually just a warm jacket, gloves, and jeans are necessary.
