NEW (in-Stock) PPC's

Steps to purchase a Powrachute PPC

OK, the process of buying a PPC involves the following steps:

  1. Select Gear box

    1. Pull start only - "B" box with Deluxe PC2000
(Advantage: Less weight, about 25 lbs lighter.)

    2. Pull & Electric Start - "E" box with Deluxe PC2000
(This is my preferred choice.  I believe with the lift in the new chute designs, that the extra 25 lbs will not be significant.  I really enjoy shutting down the engine at altitude, then floating down, only to re-start the engine and move on!  But my main reason for the 'E' box is the gear ratio and the smooth quiet setup that the 'E' box supplies.  The reduced maintenance and the smooth performance are definitely the most important aspects of having the 'E' gearbox!)

  2. Select Engine

    1. Rotax 65 hp, 582cc
(The ‘tried and true’ work-horse of the ultralight world.)

  3. Select Frame and Bracket colors  (click here for a 'close' color chart)

    1. Powder coat colors: Black, Red, John Deere Green, Royal Blue, Horizon White, Dixie Purple, Neon Green, & Neon Orange

    2. Custom Powder coat Frame colors: Candy Apple Red, Candy Blue, Candy Gold, Sun Gold, and sparkle Silver (add $'s)

    3. Standard Trim: Black brackets & Plates, Silver Wheels and Polished Aluminum Saddles

    4. Custom Powder coat Brackets (add $'s)

    5. Custom Powder coat radiator (add $'s) – standard color is black

  4. What options do you want:

    1. Custom color powder coated Frame - (add $'s)(same as #3-b)

    2. Custom color powder coated Brackets- (add $'s) (same as #3-d)

    3. Custom color powder coated Frame & Brackets - (add $'s - note: you save $'s when you get both)

    4. Extended Footbars - (add $)
(Nice option, for those over 6 foot 2 inches.)

    5. Prop Spinners - (Painted or Polished) 4" Spinner when sold with the unit; (add $60)
Or you can get a 7" Silver Spinner for ~$135
(Strictly a personal choice for appearance – adds no mechanical advantage.)

    6. Tundra Tires (2 for rear)- (add $'s)
(Ok, well, they look nice; they do add a few pounds, but the real factor is that they add so much fiction with the ground, that: 1) Ground pushing is harder and 2) the possibilities of a roll-over are greater because there is less chance of side-slipping.)

    7. Dual Throttles - (add $'s)
(Very nice feature for dual instruction – from the back seat.)

    8. Dual Strobes - $150
      (Perhaps more cosmetic than practical.)

    9. Dual Suspension - $250
(Looks ‘beefy’ – but I don’t believe it is necessary for a 2-cylinder engine.)

    10. Fan Guard Plate - $140; ($155 when sold separate)
(Recommended.  This option will save enough prop blade damage to pay for itself within a month.)

    11. Electric Fuel Probe - connects directly to your EIS $165

    12.  GPS - can also connect directly to your EIS (Engine Information System instructmentation)

  5. Propeller

    1. Ivoprop: 3-blade $0
(A long time work-horse; more flexible than the Powerfin or Warp Drive props.)

    2. Powerfin: 3-blade $0
(Personally, I believe it produces more thrust than the Ivoprop, but its stiffness may add to its vulnerability.)

    3. Warp Drive Prop upgrade: 3-blade $225
(Has a reputation for being more durable – but perhaps worth the additional cost.)

    4. Warp Drive Prop upgrade: 4-blade $450
(Again, has a reputation for being more durable – and with the 4-blades, perhaps quieter – my personal next choice in props.)

  6. Your Parachute / Canopy / Wing
OK, now you have opened a huge barrel of monkeys, and it is going to take more than a paragraph or two to get ya through this one - so let's talk more on this ... later.

    POW_StdClrs1.gif (177138 bytes) POW_StdClrs2.gif (171917 bytes)
Standard chute colors - regardless of chute manufacturer

    1. Let's start by having you select your colors.  (By the way, there is no extra charge for customizing the cell colors of your canopy.  But if you decide to have your custom logo stitched into the fabric, then you can usually figure about $150 per cell that your logo covers, and there are (on average) 13 cells in a canopy.
And although no extra money is involved in custom colors, there will be a time factor to pay - about an extra 4 -8 weeks!  And for a custom logo - about another 4 - 12 weeks.
Ok, so we know that we have about 13 cells.  So you are thinking that you can pick 13 different colors for your chute - wrong!  You can pick 26 different colors for your chute.  13 colors for the top of the cells, and 13 colors for the bottom cells.
[View this page for a listing of approximate cell colors.]

    2. For the Powrachute powered parachutes, there are 3 chute manufacturers you can choose from (listed alphabetically - I will get to my preference soon enough):

      1. APCO (made in Israel)

      2. PD - Performance Design *upgrade (made in Florida, USA)

      3. Quantum *upgrade (made in California, USA)

    3. And there are multiple sizes:

      1. 500 sq ft
Quicker to inflate, sportier, easier to packup

      2. 550 sq ft
More time needed to kite, but gives more lift - especially good for those days immediately following that large Thanksgiving turkey dinner! or those days of high Density Altitude!

      3. 390 sq ft SkyBolt - an advanced semi-elliptical chute with OUTSTANDING lift!
Very easy to kite, and GREAT lift!

      4. 430 sq ft SkyBolt - the best lift available to-date!
Still very easy to kite, and even GREATER lift!

    4. And there are different models of each manufactured chute

      1. APCO
        bullet

Power Wing Mark IV (500 or 550)

        bullet

        Power Wing Air Xtreme 500

      2. PD - Performance Design
        bullet

        Sunriser

        bullet

        Sunrise with mylar stiffeners

        bullet

        Barnstormer

      3. Quantum
        bullet

        Advantage (500 or 550)

        bullet

        New 390 & 430 sq ft - semi-elliptical (GREAT LIFT)

  7. Do you need a trailer?

    1. Open bed trailer?
(Open bed trailers focus more attention to the PPC's, and therefore perhaps better advertising, but the units are far more susceptible to the elements.)

      1. T-Trailer $995

      2. Do you want a full cover?

$275 for custom Powrachute Black cover
(Custom designed specifically for the 2-seat Powrachute)

$225 for generic cover in Black, Blue or Red
(Slightly smaller than the custom Powrachute cover; but except for the front wheel, it covers all the important components – water resistant)

      3. Carburetor Dual filter cover $22 – Black, Blue or Red
(Highly, highly recommended for an open trailer!)

      4. Propeller sock $29 – Black, Blue or Red
(Recommended for an open trailer – keeps the prop blades from turning as you are driving)

    2. Enclosed trailer:

      1. For single PPC $3895
(A really nice enclosed trailer – fiberglass roof allows daylight to enter; spring loaded door/ramp; 2200 lb axle – 3500 lb axle is optional $150; front side door)

      2. For double-long $7495
(Some people only have one PPC, but they like to carry their ATVs, bicycles, etc with them as well, and so they get the double trailer.)

  8. Communications equipment:

    1. Communications package: 2-Helmets & communication box, cabling & 2-Radios (Icom A4), $1099
(Helmet come in Red, Blue, Black or White. Small, Regular, Large & Extra-Large.
Communication box allows for two separate radios and a music input [CD, tape, etc].
Airband Radio/Transceiver Pkg: w/Rechargeable battery, wall charger, belt clip, antenna & hand-strap.
Cabling is a specific adapter for radio interface to communications box and Push-To-Talk button.)

      1. If you prefer headsets to helmets for the above package, subtract $150
(But helmets are warmer, and safer!)

      2. If you only need helmets $249 each

      3. If you only need a communication box $179

    2. Do you need additional radio(s) $285 each for Icom A4, plus $89 for additional cabling
(Airband Radio/Transceiver Pkg: w/Rechargeable battery, wall charger, belt clip, antenna & hand-strap.
You should only need the additional cabling if you are attaching to another communication box.)

  9. Shipping

    1. About $600 for the PPC & Powrachute accessories to Western USA
      (A necessary evil)

    2. $? For trailers & accessories that are not direct from Powrachute, the shipping charges vary as they are based on weight and size

  10. Total amounts & send check for 50% as deposit to get PPC ordered.

  11. Paperwork will be sent to you.  Complete paperwork and send balance due when plane is ready for shipment (~2-3 weeks).

  12. When paperwork and balance due is received. Plane will be shipped to you (if you are going to build the unit) or shipped to your Dealer (if they will build the unit – additional $850 for Dealer building, setup, break-in, testing and initial flight).

  13. Training – for those who have not yet received powered parachute training:

    1. 6-hour class over 2 or more days (2.5 hours of ground school)
(This is the bare minimum allowed to get you into the sky safely!)

    2. 3-day class (12+ hours of ground school)
(This is the recommended way to get trained.  The additional Ground School training and days to absorb the material is well worth the cost and time!)

    3. 4-day class (12+ hours of ground school plus additional flying time & a cross-country when weather permits)
(So far, every student that has stayed the additional day, has really enjoyed it – the additional flying day is a great bargain!)

[Please click here to link to our Cost section on the Training page]

Note: Parachute/Wing of the PPC will not be attached until training has been received – and only a qualified BFI can attach the wing and perform the maiden voyage!
[Note: If you decided to build the PPC - purchased from SkyTrails Ranch, Inc. - yourself, a SkyTrails Ranch Instructor will drive out to your location and perform this task for you FREE of charge when your unit is completed!]
